Bad Füssing – The Mecca of Spa in Germany
The town of Bad Füssing is located in Lower Bavaria, right on the border with Austria and only about 60 km as the crow flies from the Czech border. You can get here from Prague in just over 3.5 hours, from Brno in 4-5 hours, but from České Budějovice, for example, in just 2.5 hours.
Bad Füssing is not a sprawling metropolis – it is a small town with about 8,000 inhabitants. The history of settlement is long, with documented history dating back to the 8th century. Nevertheless, it cannot be said that there are any particularly significant monuments in this town. In fact, to be honest, there are none at all, and although it is a nice town, it is not particularly interesting at first glance. So, what has earned it the fact that tens of thousands of tourists head here every year?
Of course, it is thanks to the spa nature of Bad Füssing, which we can without exaggeration call one of the most important centers of spa culture in Germany. This is primarily because there are three exceptionally large public thermal spa complexes located here.
These are the Therme Eins, Europa Therme, and Johannesbad Therme complexes. These sites use their own thermal springs and are modern and excellently equipped. Each of them offers a unique character and somewhat different possibilities. However, all are at a top-tier level. Let’s now take a closer look at each individual complex separately…
Bad Füssing is a very pleasant spa town that offers its visitors everything needed for the regeneration of body and soul. In addition to spa procedures, you will be captivated by the extensive park, beautiful and well-maintained paths and sidewalks for walking and cycling. There are promenades, restaurants, cafes, but also, for example, a casino. You certainly won’t be bored here.
Therme Eins – Baths Number 1
The thermals bearing the simple name Therme Eins (Therme 1) are located directly in the town near the center. These are baths that enjoy high ratings (4.4 out of 5 stars on Google) and are appreciated for their rich facilities – especially in the area of saunas and other wellness matters.
However, the baths also offer 12 pools with thermal water at temperatures ranging from 29 to 42 °C. The pools please with their variety. Therme Eins is a spa of a relatively more traditional character and concept. Although they are modern and very nicely maintained, they retain the spirit of classic spa facilities, such as those we know from Hungary, etc. The baths are therefore designed primarily for relaxation and treatment. They are sought after among seniors, while they represent a somewhat less ideal choice for a family trip.
The water in these baths has a sulfurous nature and is 56 °C at the source (it is cooled for use in the pools). It is rich in sodium, potassium, calcium, and also contains magnesium, chlorides, fluoride, and other substances. It has a positive effect on:

The next spa, known as Europa Therme, is located in the town just a short walk from Therme 1 – right next to the spa park. It is arguably the largest complex in the city (and one of the largest in Bavaria) with 17 pools and a great wellness center. Furthermore, the baths are again excellently rated (4.4 out of 5 on Google) and appreciated for their complexity and quality.
The baths offer a range of recreational, relaxation, and active pools with various massage and other water features. One of the landmarks of the spa is the 120-meter artificial river. Again, there are indoor and outdoor spaces. There is no shortage of medicinal baths and pools with sulfur water and other equipment.
Sauna lovers will also find something for themselves. An interesting specialty is the large infrared sauna with 18 seats, where you can warm up deep down. There is also a Finnish, panoramic sauna with infusions, a bio-sauna for gentler relaxation, 2 herbal steam saunas styled as caves, and much more.
While Therme 1 are distinctly traditionally-oriented baths, Europa Therme is much more accessible to the wider population. Although it still cannot be called a direct family spa that would offer more significant activities for children, for example.

Johannesbad Therme
The last spa facility we will talk about is located a bit away from the town itself. The environment surrounded by greenery and a certain seclusion can even be considered an advantage from a spa perspective, but we’ll leave that to your judgment. In any case, there are large-capacity parking lots and a bus stop at the spa, so transport accessibility is very good.
The baths are again divided into an indoor and outdoor part. Outside, you will find a number of very structured and beautifully crafted pools. There is also a large 30-meter swimming pool, pools with counter-currents, and a more than 100m artificial channel, a massage pool, large hot tubs, and a specialty is the beautiful stone lagoon with salt water at a temperature of 37 °C. Very nicely decorated and styled into the form of a real rock lagoon.
Inside, you will find a number of other pools, including a large pool with artificial waves. There is also a hot thermal pool (39 °C), a massage pool with bubble baths, exercise pools for water gymnastics, and so on.
And they haven’t forgotten about wellness equipment in this facility either. The wellness center with a sauna world is located on the 2nd floor. You will find, for example, a Finnish sauna or steam baths styled in an ancient look. Furthermore, there are Turkish steam baths, Indian steam baths, and other equipment. You can even stay directly in the Johannesbad spa. Of course, there is no lack of medical clinics, spa procedures, and other options.
