The Best Water Parks in Austria
1. Sonnentherme Lutzmannsburg – one of the largest water parks in Austria
📌 Address: Thermengelände 1, 7361 Lutzmannsburg, Austria

The eastern plains of Austria are generally not as interesting or touristy as the mountainous center and west of the country. However, there is at least one major attraction here. And the word “major” is certainly not an exaggeration, as it refers to Lake Neusiedl (Neusiedlersee), a unique, vast steppe lake similar in character to the Hungarian Balaton, which is better known to locals. While Balaton is larger, Lake Neusiedl is still among the largest lakes in Austria and Central Europe, and its vastness is reminiscent of the sea.
About 15 km south of this lake lies the well-known holiday resort and water park Sonnentherme. It is one of the best-equipped and most interesting water parks in Austria. It consists of both outdoor and indoor areas (with a water surface of 3,000 m2), featuring many winding slides (18 in total). The largest of them, the XXL Monster Ride, is 270 meters long, ranking it among the longest slides in Central Europe. There are also speed slides, a virtual reality slide, and a children’s park with water and other attractions.
You will find a total of 24 indoor and outdoor pools here.
This water park is very interesting because it warmly welcomes even the youngest children—even babies. There is plenty of fun for them, including paddling pools and various small slides and play elements. Naturally, there is also a children’s sauna and steam bath. There is a swimming academy for children and many other options, programs, and activities. Of course, a sauna world and wellness for parents are also included.
The Sonnentherme water park has its own four-star Hotel Sonnenpark (awarded, for example, the HolidayCheck Award), or you can find cheaper accommodation in a cottage settlement.
2. Aquapulco – die Piratenwelt
📌 Address: Promenade 1, 4701 Bad Schallerbach, Austria
The Upper Austrian village of Bad Schallerbach, located about 15 km from Linz, offers more than just a picturesque landscape with views of Alpine ridges in the distance. It also features a fantastic themed water park that both children and adults are sure to love. After all, who doesn’t like pirates, and who wouldn’t want to be transported for a moment to the world of the magical Caribbean back when pirate ships roamed the waves?
In the Aquapulco pirate water park, you can let your imagination run wild and enjoy adventure and adrenaline. Children, in particular, will be in seventh heaven. You can try a variety of adventure slides and chutes with them. The longest slide is 109 m long, some have a very steep incline (Kamikaze, etc.), and a truly wild ride awaits you. There is an adventure pirate bay, a pirate ship, water cannons, and a unique adventure trail with zip lines and suspension bridges. Pirate shows are also held here regularly.
For the youngest children, there is a calmer baby bay—there is also a thermal pool with 36°C water. The water park also offers an exciting 5D cinema and many other beautiful experiences and attractions.
This water park also has its own hotel. It is called Hotel Paradiso, a four-star accommodation with very good reviews.
3. AREA 47 – Tirol
📌 Address: Ötztaler Achstr. 1, 6430 Ötztal Bahnhof, Austria

Do you like unconventional water parks? Perhaps ones that are closely connected with nature? Then you should definitely not hesitate to visit the Tyrolean water park Area 47. You can find it near the town of Ötztal-Bahnhof, about 40 km east of Innsbruck. This unique water park was built directly on the Ötztaler Ache river, at the foot of the steep Tschirgant and Zwölferkopf ridges, which tower over it at more than 2,300 meters like majestic stone lifeguards. The water park area is surrounded by dense forests and jagged rocks, with a wild river flowing around it.
As you might guess, the environment of this water park is absolutely unique and charming. The water park itself is not among the largest, but it is certainly exceptionally stylish and well-crafted, with attractions that appeal to (if not primarily) adult visitors.
The area is exclusively outdoors, consisting de facto of one large and segmented pool. You will find a water jumping ramp, which is the landmark of this water park. This ramp is 17 m high. There is also a giant jumping “blob”—an inflatable trampoline. Very interesting is the Splash Track water pontoon obstacle course. Naturally, there is a classic winding slide and other attractions. You will definitely have a lot of fun here.
However, the wider Area 47 resort also includes a whole range of “non-water” activities. These include zip lines, bungee jumping, climbing walls, suspension bridges, the possibility of rafting or children’s rafting on wild river rapids, and so on.
You can stay directly in the area in nice wooden apartments with free parking. You can find available dates here, for example. Other options can be found in the wider surroundings of the complex.
4. KärntenTherme Warmbad-Villach
📌 Address: Kadischenallee 25, 9504 Villach, Austria

Kärnten Therme in the city of Villach in southern Austria is more of a classic city spa and indoor lido, which nonetheless offers a small number of attractions and entertainment elements. However, it is a thermal spa—as the name suggests—and it is very nice and set in a pleasant environment.
As for water fun, you can look forward to two slides with lengths of 85 and 75 meters. There is also a great wild river that you can ride on a raft. There are several pools, including a 25-meter sports pool and several thermal pools with warm, soothing, and relaxing water at a temperature around 33°C. There is also a small pool with play elements for toddlers and the youngest children.
The local wellness center is very pleasant. The sauna world hides a whole range of saunas, including a Turkish hammam, Finnish sauna, infrared sauna, etc. You can enjoy excellent massages and other wellness, spa, or cosmetic procedures and services. There is also a large fitness center.
The water world includes the four-star Thermenhotel Karawankenhof, which is directly connected to the complex, and guests have free entry included in the price of accommodation.

A few spots higher, we took you on a tour of the pirate water world in the form of the water park appropriately named Aquapulco in the subalpine village of Bad Schallerbach in Upper Austria. Now we return to the same place. The pirate water park is part of the wider Eurothermen Resort. While Aquapulco might primarily appeal to children, other parts of this thermal water resort will instead attract parents.

📌 Address: Albrechtser Str. 10-12, 3950 Gmünd, Austria
These interesting baths offer several advantages. First of all, they are very nice and offer a beautiful, stylish environment. Secondly, as the name suggests, they are salt baths. And thirdly… they are very close. They are located in the town of Gmünd, just a few hundred meters from the Czech border. For example, a climbing wall, a 65 m long slide, or a smaller slide for young children. Yes, Sole-Felsen is not overflowing with bombastic attractions. It is more of a place for peace, sport, and a bit of water fun for the whole family.
