Hungarian culture has given Western civilization a large number of prominent figures. Football fans well remember the virtuosity of Ferenc Puskás, while gastronomy lovers swear by traditional paprikash and goulash – known in Hungary as pörkölt. One of the prominent features of one of the Visegrád Four countries is its historical spa resorts, which include the Mosonmagyaróvár Thermal Baths.
Hungarian spas and thermal baths are most often associated with the capital, Budapest. However, these luxurious spas are only one of many. Among the best-known and largest are the baths located not far from the Czech border in the traditional historical city of Mosonmagyaróvár.

Mosonmagyaróvár – A City with a Thousand-Year History
Besides Budapest, Hungary has many other cities with a spa history. This city, located at the junction of the Austrian and Slovak borders, is one of the most famous. Mosonmagyaróvár originally emerged as a military settlement of the Roman legions at the turn of the millennium. About ten centuries later, the original Hungarians built two settlements on the foundations of this fortress – Moson and Óvár.
These two settlements developed independently until they were administratively merged into one city in 1939. The Hungarian government named this city Mosonmagyaróvár, and three decades later, in 1969, established one of Hungary’s most famous spas there.
The Mosonmagyaróvár Baths receive thousands of tourists annually. Thanks to their position in the city center, they have become a welcome destination for both weekend and long-term stays.
The Fifth Most Curative Water in Europe

Inside the spa, you will find eleven different pools. The complex is directly connected to the Aqua Hotel Termál, which offers luxurious accommodation to spa guests. Due to the connection of these two destinations, you can get from the comfort of your hotel room to a sun lounger by the pool in just your bathrobe and flip-flops.
In 1957, the water in the baths was recognized as medicinal. Due to the high content of dissolved salts and silicic acid, along with fluorides, the water is suitable for inhalation therapy. Spa resort clients also treat chronic joint diseases such as:
- Cartilage disc diseases
- Ankylosing spondylitis (Bechterew’s disease)
- Deformity
- Lumbago
- Chronic joint inflammation and others.

The curative water is also recommended for respiratory diseases, pulmonary emphysema, and chronic diseases of the nasal and laryngeal cavities. The portfolio of spa procedures also includes drinking cures – which are effective for stomach and intestinal diseases, excess or lack of stomach acids, and prevention of tooth decay.
In addition to treatment using water baths, the thermal complex also offers other procedures:
- Balneotherapy – pool baths, drinking cures, and mud wraps.
- Hydrotherapy – underwater massage with a jet of water.
- Mechanotherapy – exercises in the water, individual and group exercise lessons.
- Hydro-electrotherapy – galvanic bath.
- Sauna, optics, sports massages, acupuncture, and other therapies.

A Grand Selection of Pools
Clients have truly above-standard options in the choice of pools. The thermal baths feature pools with warm water and an area of over 300 square meters, as well as two cooler swimming pools.
The resort also includes two small pools for infants and older children. These are a maximum of 80 centimeters deep and have an ideal temperature for smaller children.
The total area of all pools, including the water surface directly in the Aqua Hotel, is 2400 square meters. For an idea, this is a square with one side of 49 meters.

All pools underwent a general repair and renewal of all functional and technical parts at the end of January 2021. Thanks to this, the traditional design and layout of the spa interiors are pleasantly combined with modern elements. You will find a sufficient number of sun loungers by the pools, to which you have free access.

Admission Price List Mosonmagyaróvár
Admission to the Moson thermal baths is not expensive. You pay the entrance fee immediately upon entry and receive a chip card, which grants you access to the visitor areas. The spa complex accepts Hungarian Forints and Euros.
We appreciate that the Mosonmagyaróvár Baths offer several price lists based on the customer’s age and options. People with disabilities are entitled to special admission, and in the case of wheelchair users, the accompanying person receives free admission.
The daily admission fee for the whole family, according to the price list below, will cost you less than €41.00. Compared to another swimming pools and thermal spas, we consider this price to be very fair. The services of some aqua centers and palaces in our country are incomparably lower for the same price
According to the spa’s website, the ticket price does not include sauna access. Although you can pay for admission at the ticket office by card, cards are not accepted in the buffets inside the complex. We see this as a significant issue that Hungarian spas should address.

Mosonmagyaróvár Opening Hours
On regular working days, the Mosonmagyaróvár Baths can be visited daily from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. If you plan to visit the spa during public holidays, the baths will be open, but opening hours may be limited depending on the importance of the holiday. To be sure, please verify everything before your trip. Information on opening hours can be found directly on the Moson Thermal website.
Some spa resort visitors criticize the unavailability of certain pools. The operator directly explains this shortcoming on their blog: individual pools undergo regular maintenance and cleaning, and are periodically emptied and refilled. For large pools, their closure is reflected in a reduced admission price, and the operator informs about the unavailability on the website and at the entrance.

Accommodation Options
Part of the spa resort is the option of accommodation directly in the hotel belonging to the baths. Thanks to this, you can get from your room to the pool without having to go outside. However, this is not the only accommodation option.
Aqua Hotel Termál ***

The three-star hotel located directly within the thermal spa complex is one of the most frequently sought-after destinations.
For two nights in the main season, you will pay approximately €140 per person. The accommodation price includes half-board buffet, a honey back massage, a welcome glass of champagne, hotel pool, sauna, infrared sauna, and 2 tickets to the spa complex with unlimited use of sun loungers, saunas, and all pools.
For a 5-night, 6-day stay, you will pay approximately €320 per person. The tourist tax of €1.30 per person over 18 must always be included in the price. Although the accommodation price is higher, the full-day admission to the spa resort must also be taken into account.
Visitor reviews on Booking.com are mostly positive. If they criticize anything about the hotel, it is the lower quality of the Wi-Fi connection and the poorer availability of the breakfast buffet. If you come to breakfast after eight in the morning, some hotel delicacies may no longer be available.
Check-in and check-out are at standard times well known to tourists. Afternoon arrival is after 3:00 PM, and you must check out by 10:00 AM at the latest. The advantage is that even after checking out, you can use the pools and spa environment at the hotel’s expense.
Hotel Aquasol ****

The Aquasol hotel complex is located about 250 meters from the baths. Although it is not part of the baths, it belongs directly to the resort. Thanks to this, every hotel guest receives all-day admission for the entire duration of their stay.
A double room at Hotel Aquasol costs €99. A four-bed room for the whole family costs €150. Prices include buffet breakfast, spa tickets, a bathrobe, a cosmetic set in the room, a bath towel, and a hand towel.
Hotel Aquasol consists of a renovated bourgeois house with utility buildings. Modernly equipped rooms are complemented by a partially covered pool.
Guests of Hotel Aquasol rate it with an average score of 8.9 out of 10 on Booking.com. If they criticize anything about the hotel, it is the quality of the breakfasts. Some dishes on the breakfast buffet are cold and do not look fresh. Some guests would also appreciate the option of dinner.
Hotel Panoráma

Another accommodation option is the family-run Hotel Panoráma, located about a 10-minute walk from the baths. The price for 6 nights for 2 people is approximately €360.50. A triple room for the same period costs approximately €421.60.
Hotel Panoráma focuses on more affluent families with children. Guests appreciate the quiet environment and the possibility of selecting meals in advance. Room amenities include a bathroom, toilet, TV, telephone, and Wi-Fi connection. The hotel also features a billiard room, a restaurant with a lobby bar, massages, a tennis court, and a bicycle rental.
Reconstruction

In 2019, the Mosonmagyaróvár spa complex underwent a complete reconstruction. The renovation included both hotel rooms and pool facilities. Until then, the resort only had average reviews – so if you are looking for visitor ratings, pay attention to the date of publication.
During the reconstruction, guests mainly complained about the unavailability of some pools. The reconstruction also affected the curative pool with a temperature of 36 to 38 °C. The renovation of this pool in the Moson Baths began in April 2019 and finished in the spring of 2020.
Where are the Mosonmagyaróvár Baths Located?
How to get to the Mosonmagyaróvár Baths?
The Moson Thermals are located in the northwestern part of Hungary, near the borders with Slovakia and Austria. If you are traveling from the Czech Republic, the easiest option is to cross the Břeclav border crossing and then travel via Bratislava. The only exception is the route from Karlovy Vary and Plzeň – in this case, use the faster connection via Vienna.
The journey to the Hungarian baths will take no more than 5 hours even from the most remote areas in Liberec and northern Bohemia. The distance and travel time from all regional cities in the Czech Republic can be found in the table below.
If you travel by train, you can get from Prague to Mosonmagyaróvár in approximately 6 hours. The company Regiojet operates a direct train to the destination without the need for a transfer. If you travel with another company, you will have to change trains in Vienna or Bratislava.

Summary
The Mosonmagyaróvár Thermal Baths are deservedly a popular tourist destination. The city itself may not offer too many other options than swimming and using spa procedures, but gastronomy lovers will find plenty to enjoy. As in all of Hungary, you will find a large number of regional cuisines in Moson.
We recommend the Moson Thermals to families with children and couples. Tourists and spa clients who have come for therapeutic procedures will also find what they are looking for here. After the reconstruction, the resort offers modern facilities that deserve their place in the TOP five thermal spas in Hungary.
