Where is Terme Tuhelj located and what to see there?

Terme Tuhelj is among the most modern and well-equipped thermal and water parks in Croatia. This beautiful, attractive complex is located in a charming hilly landscape near the spa village of Tuheljske Toplice. This village is nestled in the northwestern part of Croatia, far from the famous seaside destinations – but just a short distance from the border with Slovenia.

The inland Croatian landscape here is very similar to the Czech countryside, so it will feel almost homey and familiar. Small villages, hills covered with deciduous forests, and grassy meadows. It is a beautiful place for a peaceful holiday and excursions. The surroundings of Terme Tuhelj are crisscrossed primarily by a large number of cycling paths. The local hills offer gentle peaks around 200 or 300 meters above sea level, making it favorable for cycling. However, while the local nature is picturesquely charming (reminiscent of Lada’s illustrations), you won’t find many imposing monuments or grand natural wonders in the immediate vicinity.

Tuheljske Toplice itself is a very small village with about 300 inhabitants. The buildings are scattered, but you can look forward to a charming rural environment that feels thoroughly calming and relaxing. However, the spa complex includes hotels and other accommodation facilities, restaurants, and additional tourist infrastructure, so you won’t lack anything.

About 25 km from the spa are some of the most beautiful thermals in SloveniaTerme Olimia. You can spice up your holiday by visiting both complexes. Another Croatian spa, Rogaška Slatina, is also located nearby.

How to get here?

If you set out by car from Prague, you can reach Terme Tuhelj in about 6.5 hours—nearly two hours faster than the nearest coastal Croatian destinations. From Brno, you can be there in about 5 hours. You can choose a route through Vienna or Bratislava; they are comparable in terms of time.

If you travel by air and, for example, a rental car, you can get here from Zagreb in just 40 minutes. The journey from coastal Rijeka takes less than two hours.

About Terme Tuhelj Spa

The Terme Tuhelj spa and recreation complex is among the most modern and popular facilities of its kind in the Croatian interior. It is a relatively young project, which began only in 2003. An outdoor water park was created in 2005, followed a year later by indoor pools and a spa center. Gradually, the complex expanded to include a sports hall, a campsite, a spa park, and an extensive wellness center, with renovations also taking place in some parts.

The entire spa now consists of an outdoor area with articulated pools and attractions and an indoor area covering a total area of 15,000 m², with a water surface area of 5,000 m². Visitors appreciate that the spa is very well-maintained, clean, quite spacious, and well-equipped—including the refreshment options.

The spa is a very popular destination for families with children, and there is truly a lot of activity for kids of all ages. Parents and adults also find space for rest and relaxation, especially in the local wellness center. Let’s look at the specific equipment of the spa.

Pools and Attractions in the Spa

The water world of Terme Tuhelj, named Water Planet, includes indoor and outdoor pools and plenty of attractions. This water area has a generous size of 15,000 m² and a total of 8 pools filled with thermal water. Moreover, a large part of Water Planet has recently undergone renovation, so the environment is truly beautiful, modern, clean, and new.

In the indoor areas, you will find, for example, a 25-meter swimming pool suitable for sports. Children, on the other hand, can have a blast in the TuhiLand pool, which offers a modern system of water climbing frames, slides, and small water chutes. There is also a relaxation and wellness pool with various hydromassage elements, artificial waterfalls, jets, and other water features for perfect rest and recreation. Around the pool are articulated terraces, piers, and islands with sunbeds and live greenery.

Outside, there is a recreational pool and a 250 m long artificial river with two lagoons and even a water bar. There are slides, water chutes, and a pool with artificial waves. Small children will surely love the “Water City” with many nice smaller attractions. Plenty of sunbeds, umbrellas, and relaxation areas are a matter of course.

Regarding the mentioned water chutes, you can look forward to a five-lane slide, two adrenaline slides, and the wild Kamikaze chute.

Thermal Water and Pools

The thermal water at Terme Tuhelj comes from a local spring that rises near the spa. The temperature of this water is 32 to 33 °C and it is sulfurous water with positive effects, especially on the musculoskeletal system. It is used to treat post-operative and post-traumatic conditions, rheumatic diseases, and damage to joints and bones. Another major group of ailments where this water can have a positive effect is skin diseases.

Besides sulfur, the water is rich in sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, strontium, and other components. It is also specific for its high content of peloids. Therefore, Terme Tuhelj significantly utilizes mud wraps, baths, and other procedures based on this natural wealth.

Directly at the thermal water source, there are also two connected medicinal thermal outdoor pools containing pure, unfiltered water.

The water temperature in the pools ranges between 28 and 33 °C.

Summary and Review Evaluation

Terme Tuhelj stands out among Croatian water and thermal parks for its truly very nice, modern, clean, and stylish environment. It offers many pools and attractions and primarily focuses on families. There is also space for relaxation and treatment, but if you are looking for a very quiet, more traditional spa, Terme Tuhelj may not be the ideal choice. Conversely, if you primarily want to have fun (with children) and also enjoy some relaxation or romance with a partner in a modern setting, it represents a perfect option.

The spa is exceptionally well-rated, with 4.4 out of 5 stars on Google. It is truly a high-quality facility—not just by Croatian, but by European standards.
